I agree. emerge should have a message queue. ebuilds do have messages already, but the often get overlooked during a emerge -uDN world cause they’re only posted once at the end of the build. emerge should save all these notes an messages and state “You have [n] unread notes. You have [n] unread important warning.” everytime you run emerge. The same way it does for updated config files.
I am not a fan of a announce mailing list. It’s like looking on the new ebuilds list [1]. It’s hard and boring to filter out the packages applying to your system(s). emerge is the right place to handle this.
